I’, looking for a James Henry Kemp of Company K, 27th Indiana Voluntgeers who was killed at Chancelorsville on May 3. Is there any record or clue as to where he might have been interred? I have heard that many of the casualties were buried in mass graves. I would very much appreciate any help or information you might have. Best wishes, Dan Kemp
Dan,
His military records would probably show where he was buried. If he was one of the many unidentified soldiers recovered, then he would have been buried somewhere on the field and then more than likely re-interred in the national cemetery in Fredericksburg. The staff at the park there might be able to get you more info or point you in a different direction.
