The 17th Connecticut at Chancellorsville

Jed Hotchkiss map of the Chancellorsville field

The first engagement for the 17th Connecticut occurred in May 1863 at Chancellorsville, Virginia. It was here that the regiment’s first Lt. Colonel, Charles Walter, was killed in action. Several resources can be found here, including a short narrative of the regiment’s actions, the official report by Major Allen Brady, and a modern photo tour of the route of the 17th Connecticut leading up to the first shots of May 2, 1863.
